Phantoms Wrap Regular Season with a Flourish at Blue Jay Tune Up

Elizabethtown, PA--Delaware County Community College Track and Field completed the final meet of the regular season at the Miller Sports Construction Blue Jay Tune Up this weekend, battling chilly temperatures and rain at Elizabethtown College for most of the day. Six Phantoms overcame the elements in running, jumping, throwing, and hurdling events for an event win as well as Top 10 individual and team performances.

The Women's team earned a 10th place finish overall with 14 points. Sophomore Fatumata Kaba placed second in her heat of the 100m dash (13.23 seconds) and took fifth overall in the finals with a time of 13.31 seconds. Kaba bested the triple-jump field with a 10.84m mark to win the event.

"Fatu crushed it today," enthused Head Coach Cara Fordenbacher. "She did not let the elements dampen her spirits and she went out and competed well!"

Sophomore Cheyenne McCarthy took on the mid-distance double of 800m/1500m. She began her day with the 1500m, taking first in her heat with a time of 5:32.18. McCarthy's time secured her ninth-place finish overall. Later in the afternoon, she raced the 800m, placing 14th with a time of 2:48.22.

On the Men's side, the Phantoms earned eight team points, placing them ninth among the competitive field. The running squad started the day with the 110m high hurdles, with Sophomore Daniel McLaughlin placing seventh overall with a time of 17.93. McLaughlin later raced the 200m, placing 14th overall with a time of 24.73.

Also completing a short sprint double was Sophomore Jimmy Love. He boosted himself to a win in his heat during the 100m trials and then raced to a fifth-place finish overall, running 11.47 seconds in the finals. Love finished his day with a ninth-place finish in the 200m (24.13).

First-year Phantom Noah Gallagher threw 40.66m to secure his place in the javelin finals and an overall finish of seventh in the event. Gallagher and fellow freshman Nathan Jeffers competed in the shot put for 21st place (8.78m) and 28th place (6.69m), respectively.

"Despite the weather, the Phantoms went out and competed this weekend," said Fordenbacher. "I was very happy with everyone's performances and congratulate everyone whose season completed this week! Now comes the preparation for the National Meet!

Six Phantoms qualified in 14 events for the 2026 NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships, held May 7-9 at Mohawk Valley Community College May 7-9 in Utica, NY.
