Phantoms Track and Field Competes at NJCAA National Championship to Finish Season
Utica, N.Y. - The Delaware County Community College track & field team put the finishing touches on a standout season at the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College on May 9-11.
Accompanying DCCC head coach Cara Fordenbacher at the DIII national meet were Ramadan Amm, Joseph Faye, Aidan Heppard, Dennis Omane-Nketia, Bintu Sheriff, and Jadon Thomas.
The Phantoms kicked off competition with a bang on Thursday in the 4x100 meter relay trials. Omane-Nketia, Faye, Thomas, and Heppard collectively owned the moment as the quartet ran to a new school record time of 45.82 seconds and placed 12th overall.
On Friday, the Phantoms had two competitors represent DCCC. Sheriff ran the 100m dash trials, finishing 17th overall with a time of 14.13. Heppard competed in his 100m dash trials as well, finishing 22nd, with a time of 11.63, just one hundredth of a second off of his personal record.
Coach Fordenbacher beamed with pride in regards to her athletes' performances over the weekend, as well as the whole season.
"Leaving the national meet with a school record in the 4x100m relay is a huge accomplishment, and a testament to all the hard work our athletes have put in this season," Fordenbacher said. "We went out and competed in all of our events and represented DCCC well. The meet capped a season of growth for us, and we can't wait to see how much we can continue to develop and flourish next year. It was definitely a season of which to be proud!" #PhantomProud!
