Phantoms Finished Their Regular Season at Blue Jay Tune-Up

Elizabethtown, Pa. - The Delaware County Community College track and field team made the most of its final meet of the regular season Saturday at the Blue Jay Tune-Up hosted by Elizabethtown College.

It was a big day for the Phantoms, as it was the last meet for the three sophomores on the roster – Ramadan Amm, Thiernod 'Joseph' Faye, and William MacIntosh

Aidan Heppard also added to the excitement of the day, with his qualification to the national meet as an individual in the 100-meter dash.

Heppard hit a personal record in the 100m with a time of 11.62 seconds which qualified him for the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Outdoor Track and Field championships. This is the first male individual qualification for the Phantoms this season.

The men's 4x100m quartet of Dennis Omane-Nketia, Faye, Jadon Thomas, and Heppard placed seventh overall with a time of 46.14 – a new season-best time for the group resulting in a new school record. The group's seventh-place finish scored two points for the Phantoms at the meet.

The highlights kept coming as Amm set personal records in both of his sprinting events, capping off his time as a Phantom with 31st place in the 100m with a time of 12.58, and a 24th-place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.93.

Salah lyoun also hit a personal record in the 400m with a time of 1:05.09.

Coach Cara Fordenbacher and Coach Stephen Battle are so proud of the season the Phantoms have had.

"We have had some new school records and plenty of personal records to go around," Fordenbacher said, "but more importantly we have seen athletes who show up every day and want to get better. They have put in the hard work, and it has shown as we finished out the season."

"We want to send a special shoutout to our sophomores Ramadan, Joseph and Will who will go down in the history books as the inaugural group who started the men's track and field program here at DCCC. We wish you the best!"

The Phantoms will be sending six athletes to compete in the national meet beginning May 9th at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY. Bintu Sheriff will be competing in the women's 100m, while Heppard will be competing in the men's 100m. Omane-Nketia, Faye, Thomas, and Heppard will represent the Phantoms in the 4x100m relay. Go Phantoms!
