Sheriff Qualifies for National Championships in Women's 100m

Chester, Pa. - The Delaware County Community College track and field team continued to add to a memorable season on Saturday at the Paul Donahue Invitational hosted by Widener University.

The Phantoms sent eight athletes to compete against schools at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels and dropped some stellar times.

The highlight of the day was the lone female athlete on the Phantoms' roster, Bintu Sheriff, running a personal record (PR) of 13.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash. This time qualifies Sheriff for the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-III national meet in Utica, N.Y., in early May.

Sheriff will join the DCCC men's 4x100m relay who had previously qualified for nationals.

"We are thrilled with Bintu's progress this season," head coach Cara Fordenbacher said. "She has been dropping time each week, and her hard work has paid off."

Short sprinter Aidan Heppard also had an outstanding day, setting PR's in both of his events. Heppard placed 55th in the 100m with a time of 11.74 and 85th in the 200m with a time of 23.88.

The Phantoms also competed in the 400m and the 4x100m relay to round out the day's performances. Ramadan Amm, Thiernod Faye, Donovan Hughes, Salah lyoun, Dennis Omane-Nketia, and Jadon Thomas represented DCCC in these events.

Coach Fordenbacher and Coach Battle remain pleased with the effort their athletes are putting in daily.

"Competing against athletes at the NCAA D-I level, and putting up the results we did on Saturday is awesome to see." Fordenbacher said. "We are so happy that Bintu smashed that national qualifying mark. "We knew she had it in her to run that fast, and we can't wait to see what she does at nationals."

The Phantoms close out the regular season at Elizabethtown College next Saturday.
