Phantom's Relay Qualifies for NJCAA Nationals at Bill Butler Invitational
West Chester, Pa. - The Delaware County Community College Men's Track and Field team made it a Saturday to remember at the Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University.
In a historic run, the Phantoms ran a 4x100m relay for the first time ever in competition, and Dennis Omane-Nketia, Joshua Adams, Jadon Thomas, and Aidan Heppard ran right into the program history books with a National Qualifying time of 47.07 seconds to punch the quartet's ticket for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Meet. NJCAA D-III Nationals will be held at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, N.Y. from May 9th through 11th.
William MacIntosh authored his own memorable chapter Saturday as his new personal record (PR) in the Javelin throw increased the school record to 22.69 meters (74 feet, 5 inches).
Coach Cara Fordenbacher notes MacIntosh has slowly been chipping away at his throws and increasing each week.
Other notable DCCC performances at West Chester came from all of the 100m sprinters. Every athlete who competed in the 100m dash for the Phantoms ran a PR. These sprinters include Heppard, Adams, Omane-Nketia, Thomas, Ramadan Amm, Aaron White, and Salah lyoun, and Bintu Sheriff on the women's side.
"This is a testament to the hard work they have all been putting in, and their drive to succeed," Fordenbacher said.
Coach Fordenbacher and Coach Stephen Battle are thrilled with the Phantoms this week.
"Our athletes went out and truly competed this weekend," Fordenacher said. "They put themselves in the races they were in and did not back down against competition at the NCAA D-II and D-III level. All of our athletes are improving each week, and that has resulted in us being able to represent DCCC at the National Meet in May. We can't be more proud and excited. We have two more meets to keep improving and seeing the times continue to drop."
DCCC is back in action next Saturday, April 20th at Widener University. Come out and support your Phantoms!
