Six Phantoms Compete in the Purple and Gold Invitational

West Chester, Pa. - The Delaware County Community College track team had six athletes compete at the Purple and Gold Invitational hosted by West Chester University on Saturday.

The Phantoms, and all the athletes for that matter, competed in less than ideal conditions as it was windy, rainy, and cold.

William MacIntosh didn't let the weather interfere with making history as he became the first Phantom on the men's side to ever compete in the javelin competition. MacIntosh finished 11th with a throw of 19.90 meters (65 feet, three inches), which currently ranks him 19th in the nation among all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division-III outdoor track and field competitors this year.

Dennis Ormane-Nketia and Donovan Hughes competed in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:08.95 and 1:09.16 seconds that rank them 17th and 18th, respectively, on the NJCAA DIII outdoor performance list.

Joshua Adams finished the 800 in 2:54.09 which currently ranks 16th among all NJCAA D-III competitors.

On the women's side, Bintu Sheriff kicked off her season with a big-time performance as she placed 11th with a time of 14.12. Sheriff currently ranks fifth in the nation on the NJCAA DIII outdoor performance list.

"We are excited to see continued growth and fire from our athletes in competition," coach Cara Fordenbacher said. "We have a much needed week off to rest, recover, and prepare for our April competitions before we tackle the second half of the season. We can't wait to see what our athletes can do. We are waiting for some breakout performances, where all of our hard work finally clicks."

The Phantoms return to action on April 5th when the two-day Ursinus College Track & Field Festival begins.
