Schnecksville, PA—Delaware County Community College men's soccer team held Lehigh Carbon Community College scoreless in Schnecksville, posting a 3-0 win on September 12.
After maintaining field control through the first half, the Phantoms broke through with second-half goals from Ben Smith, Abdul Sheriff, and Lawrence Buigbo. Sheriff's score was his fourth in three matches.
"They came together themselves at halftime and I didn't really have to say much," said Head Coach Andrew Flood. "Once they went back out and started playing our tactics, moving in rhythm, and getting behind the diagonal run, they found the back of the net."
He credits the outcome to a full-team, end-to-end effort. "Lawrence and Michael [Haley] were dominant in the middle of the field, and Mohamed [Kamara] was in the back making sure there were no mistakes," Flood said, adding kudos for Bryam Tierra's first intercollegiate shutout.
The victory served as a bounce-back game from a 4-0 loss at Montgomery County Community College on September 10. "They forgot about that loss quickly and came into this game mentally ready and locked in," said Flood.
Now 2-1-0 for the season, the Phantoms finish a week of travel with a September 14 match-up at Northampton. The team returns home to the DCCC Marple Campus Soccer Field (901 S. Media Line Rd, Media, PA) on September 17 to host Bucks County Community College at 4:00 pm.
"We're excited to come back home," Flood said. "It will be a tough match up, but we're looking forward to playing on our field and we want to be dominant for our fans."
