Home Win for Phantoms Over Passaic 66-61
Chester, PA—Sometimes, a downward trend in numbers is a good thing. For Delaware County Community College men's basketball, reducing turnovers over the last several games certainly has had positive impact. Limiting turnovers to nine against Passaic County Community College was key in the DCCC Phantoms' 66-61 victory.
"When we're valuing the ball, that puts us in the position to win games," said Head Coach Dwayne Saunders.
At the same time, the Phantoms trended up on O-boards for second chances, outrebounding the Panthers 15-3 on the offensive glass, including five from Omar Warring (nine total rebounds) and four from Asher Mansor. "Our toughness showed improvement on the interior," Saunders said, noting the team's overall rebounding success when playing both bigs Warring and Zymir James.
Guard Jabree Martin continued to lead the team in scoring with 28 points, while adding seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Martin has recorded more than 20 points per game over his last six outings, including a 40-point performance in an 84-80 loss to Luzerne County Community College, and is currently averaging 23.9 ppg on the season.
Saunders pointed to extending possessions and executing on offense as keys to success. "We missed shots, of course, but we executed well offensively from top to finish," he said. Mansor contributed a dozen points with Warring and Stephen Rosemin each adding eight.
"Defensively, we brought the fight to them," Saunders said. "We had a good game plan that we carried out. It was a team effort."
DCCC—with its main campus in Media, a new Southeast Center opening in Drexel Hill in January, the Downingtown Center, and (through June 2026) the Pennocks Bridge Center—plays its home basketball games at FiDonce Gymnasium (215 E 21st St, Chester).
Currently 3-10 this season, the Phantoms head next to Maryland to compete in the Cecil College Holiday Classic, facing CCBC-Dundalk on December 19 and Cecil on December 20, both Division II programs.
