Coach Ryan Hunter joins the Phantoms athletics team as Head Baseball Coach at Delaware County Community College, bringing with him a wealth of experience and passion to the baseball field. With a background deeply rooted in both playing and coaching, Coach Hunter has made an impact on the local baseball community through his founding of the Michael K. Ingram II Baseball League in Delaware and his nonprofit organization, Blue Demon Athletics.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Ryan's journey in baseball began as a standout 3-year varsity player at Howard High School. His ability on the field earned him a spot at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he showcased his versatile skills, splitting time as both a pitcher and a third baseman.
Following his collegiate playing days, Coach Hunter transitioned seamlessly into coaching, driven by a desire to share his love for the game and cultivate the talents of the next generation. His coaching journey took him to Freire Charter School Wilmington in Delaware, where he assumed the role of Head Baseball Coach, the first in the history of the Wilmington school.
Prior to joining us Delaware County Community College, Coach Hunter served as the Hitting Coach at Williamson College of the Trades in Media, PA. His time at Williamson showcased his dedication to help refine players' skills, emphasizing the importance of discipline and strategic thinking in the batter's box.
Coach Hunter's coaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic approach that extends beyond the diamond. He consistently preaches the emphasis of exceling in the classroom, as well as on the field, as each player has to earn the title of student athlete. He believes in instilling values of teamwork, dedication, consistency, and sportsmanship, understanding that these qualities contribute not only to success in baseball but also to the overall development of athletes into adults.
