Late Surge Lifts DCCC to an 11-4 Win Over Atlantic Cape
Mays Landing, NJ—Phantoms Baseball recorded its first win of the season in the back half of a doubleheader at Atlantic Cape Community College thanks to solid pitching, strategic baserunning, and a seventh-inning offensive outburst.
In the 11-4 victory, Connor Hill pitched a complete game for Delaware County Community College on 117 pitches while striking out 10 batters and holding Atlantic Cape to four runs, only two earned.
Atlantic Cape had won the first game of the doubleheader 10-4. The first six innings of the second game were a back-and-forth battle with teams trading hits. DCCC established an early 4-1 lead in the third inning behind runs scored by Carlos Alvarez-Rivero, Christopher DeTurris (CJ), and Teagan Jillard, but Atlantic Cape scored in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game 4-4.
In the top of the seventh, Ethan Jabkowski sparked the rally by drawing a walk as a pinch hitter, with Steven Buckner pinch running, culminating in the go-ahead run for the Phantoms. Capitalizing on momentum, DCCC batted around the order with key hits from Ethan Reyes, DeTurris, and Nicholas Radomile, combined with disciplined walks by Landyn Washington and Buckner. In a standout moment of aggressive baserunning, Radomile stole home on a trick play put on by Assistant Coach John Jillard and executed by Buckner.
After the Phantoms' seven-run seventh, Hill delivered a scoreless bottom half to close the door on the win. The victory marks the first career win for Head Coach Andre Solomon. Reyes and DeTurris each had three hits in the game, with Reyes—who is batting .524 this season to date—racking up five knocks through the doubleheader.
Next up, the Phantoms host Camden County College at DCCC's Marple Campus Athletic Field (901 S Media Ln Rd, Media) on Friday, April 10, with first pitch at 3:00pm, and then travel to Camden for a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon.
