DCCC Plays Atlantic Cape Club to 9-9 Tie

Mays Landing, NJ—A five-run seventh inning highlighted Delaware County Community College's performance as it drew a 9-9 stalemate with the Atlantic Cape club team. With the tie, the DCCC Phantoms took the season series with the Buccaneers 1-0-1.

After scoring in the first with a Jarrett Mayes RBI single, the Phantoms fell behind but came back fiercely in the final innings. The high-scoring seventh featured a Mayes double and key walks from Joshua Claycomb and Brady Kopishke. DCCC tied the game in the eighth with a hit-by-pitch and a walk by Eric Engesser.

Mayes led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Phantoms showed patience at the plate with nine walks, with Steven Perez II, Claycomb, and Engesser each drawing a pair. DCCC also dominated the base paths with nine stolen bases, with Mayes, Claycomb, and Michael Turner each swiping two bags each.

"I love the way we fought today," said DCCC Head Coach Ryan Hunter. "We battled through some adversity to get back into the game. We're still struggling to hit the ball, but I like how we are getting more selective in our swings. We drew almost 10 walks today."

Hunter acknowledges that the team missed some big opportunities to put the ball in crucial situations. "Hopefully we do a little better on Wednesday," he said. The Phantoms take on Williamson College of the Trades on March 12 for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM at the Mechanics' field, also in Media, PA.
