Phantoms Can't Hold Onto Early Lead at Camden
Blackwood, N.J. — The Delaware County Community College baseball team jumped out to an early lead but it wasn't enough as the Phantoms fell, 22-8, on Wednesday against host Camden County College.
DCCC (0-5) got off to a fast start in the game as it brought 11 players to the plate in the second inning. Wayne Stewart got things started with a leadoff walk and Andrew Rohrbach followed with a walk of his own. Jonathan Martinez and Anthony Georgette provided back-to-back RBI singles as the visitors jumped out to a 6-0 advantage.
The Cougars (12-14) answered back with five runs in the bottom of the second and seven in the third to grab a lead they would never relinquish.
Cidrick Navas brought Bryant Demota-Diaz home with a fielder's choice in the fourth and Martinez tacked on another run in the fifth but it wasn't enough as Camden erupted for 22 runs after bring held scoreless in the first.
Patrick Magargee (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Phantoms.
DCCC returns to action on Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. contest against host Middlesex County College.
